Write the Vision Sis!

By Aaliyah Moore

I think we can agree that this year has completely drained us all. I’ve tried not to be consumed with the grief and bad news, but it’s honestly been hard to escape, right? I took a week away from work to refresh and recharge, and I now think I’m ready to knock out the last month of the year.

I typically spend the month of December reflecting on the past 11 months and thinking about my following year’s goals. A common activity that I do is create a vision board. A vision board is a collage of images, pictures, and affirmations representing a person’s goals or dreams. While there’s a lot that didn’t go my way in 2020, I can say that I still managed to knock out some big goals this year.

And just because I may not have accomplished everything does not mean that those goals can’t roll over to next year’s vision board! And I hope that’s some encouragement for you, too.

Here are some tips for helping you get started on your vision board:

  1. Spend some time reflecting on what your goals are for the upcoming year.
  2. Collect magazines that you can cut out images, quotes, and sayings from. (These images should represent your goals and what you want to see for yourself in the following year.)
  3. Grab scissors, tape, pins, and/or a glue-stick to put your board together.
  4.  Lay everything out before you start gluing and pinning so you can get an idea of where you want everything.
  5. Once you’ve finished it, hang your board somewhere you can see it often.
  6. Hold yourself accountable for knocking those goals out!

I’ve made a vow to go into 2021 with hopefulness and expectancy. Just because everything didn’t go as planned this year doesn’t mean there isn’t room for hope going into the new year. Whether you create a vision board or write your goals down on paper, I hope you spend some time thinking about what you want for next year. Don’t stop until you see it manifest!
